RABBIT CONNECTS THE LETTERS
By Darin Phillips, Illustrated by Patrice Aguilar
This is the third of four books that teach the alphabet. In this book, Rabbit connects letters to what she already knows. She gets to:
- * Identify starting and ending word sounds
- * Create card decks
- * Show that numbers have a name (e.g. “1” is also “one”)
Through five short stories, Rabbit the Dog will not only continue to learn about the alphabet, but put it to practical use. These stories will help cement their knowledge. In the first story, Rabbit will reinforce her knowledge about how to spell her name by writing a new song that helps her wash her hands and brush her teeth for a good period of time. (“If Rabbit can do it, so can I!”) Then she will connect the starting and ending sounds of the shapes and colors that teachers want children to know before they start school. (Well, to be honest, she really dives into all of the senses. Yes, you could say she is going down the rabbit hole…) Next, she dives into the history of the English alphabet, which makes it even more interesting. Rabbit also creates a matching game to make sure she gets the tricky letters correct (like equipage, which has a q p and g). Finally, she notices that numbers also have a word (not just a symbol). There are a lot of things that should spark curiosity and a commitment to learning in this third book!
