RABBIT LEARNS NUMBERS
By Darin Phillips, Illustrated by Patrice Aguilar
This is the first of five books that teach numbers. Children are ready for this book when they express curiosity about numbers, counting, and/or sorting or organizing things.
Through six short stories where Rabbit the Dog learns about the symbols that represent numbers, children will start to gain mastery in recognizing numbers and what they stand for. Rabbit wants to count, so will your child. Rabbit sings counting songs, which makes learning fun. Rabbit learns the symbols for the ten basic numbers. (“If Rabbit can do it, so can I!”) Rabbit starts learning how to draw the symbols, which will make the child want to copy her. Rabbit is a great role model because she loves to count things. And, finally, Rabbit starts sorting things, which give the numbers (and their symbols) real meaning.
